Carthage — The national Security Council met on Thursday evening in Carthage palace, under the chairmanship of the president, the prime minister and the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) speaker to look at the situation in the country and the latest development in Libya, a presidency statement released on Wednesday reads.

In the statement, Interior Minister Lotfi Ben Jeddou was quoted as saying “this regular meeting is part of the follow-up of the security situation in the country and the efforts made by the army and security forces to cope with terrorist threats”.

He added that the meeting also allowed to review the situation of security in Libya and discuss mechanisms to better control common borders.

Libya’s capital Tripoli recorded last Friday violent clashes as militias fired at thousands of protestors claiming their eviction from the capital.
