African summit about Libya to gather conflicting parties in Brazzaville

African leaders are due to meet Libya’s UN-backed prime minister on Saturday in a fresh bid to help resolve the political crisis in Libya.

Fayez al-Sirraj is due to attend the summit in Congo’s capital Brazzaville, his advisor told AFP on Thursday.

However, Libyan eastern strongman Khalifa Haftar, who backs a rival administration in Bayda city, will not take part despite being invited, his spokesman announced.

Instead, The House of Representatives’ Speaker Aquilah Salah will be attending.

This new move would be the latest attempt to put an end to six years of chaos in Libya where rival parties and administrations have been vying to control the country’s wealth and cities.
