Introduction: Libya’s Transition to Peace and Security
The death of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi on October 20, 2011 marked the
end of a tumultuous chapter in Libya’s history, the 42-year dictatorship in
Libya (Salem and Kadlec, 2012: 1). Parts of the army defected and civilians became increasingly alarmed with the atrocities committed by the government and armed forces (Gillete and Gamel, 2011).
