Members of Libya’s constitutional drafting committee will be chosen by popular vote on February 20th, Libya Herald reported on Thursday (January 29th).
Libyans living abroad will be able to vote from February 15th to 17th, High National Electoral Commission chief Nuri Elabbar said.
The constitutional commission is to be made up of 60 members, with equal representation for Libya’s three regions.
The charter is to cover key issues such as Libya’s system of government, the status of minorities and the role of Sharia law.
Only 436,000 Libyans out of an eligible 3.4 million signed up to vote ahead of the December 21st deadline, AFP reported.
