Thinni in Cairo for talks on Egyptian support

The Prime Minister, flew to Cairo day for talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fatteh Sisi on Egyptian help to end the crisis in Libya.

Met at Cairo airport by Egyptian Premier Ibrahim Mahlab, Thinni and his ministerial delegation, he headed straightway to see the Egyptian leader.

According to Egyptian political analysts, the aim of the visit is to coordinate cooperation between the two countries against terrorism both in Libya and regionally. As part of the talks, the two leaders are expected to agree specifics on Egypt training of the Libya army and police, in particular in counter terrorist tactics.

The visit coincides with the 41st anniversary of the crossing of the Suez Canal by Egyptian forces in 1973 and the war with Israel that resulted in the liberation of Sinai. The leader of Operation Dignity, retired General Khalifa Hafter, meanwhile used the occasion both to congratulate the Egyptians but also to tell them that today’s battle was against extremism and terrorism and that it was being fought among other places, in Libya.

“The Libyan army is now fighting a war against terrorism on behalf of the Arab nation, “ he said. “It is one and the same battle, whether in Libya or Egypt or anywhere else.”
