Military sources denied Monday some media reports about the launching of Egyptian military operations against Islamic State (IS) jihadist group in Libya, stressing that Libya is an independent sovereign state that no one should interfere with its affairs.
Egyptian airstrikes in Libya to revenge for the 21 Egyptian Copts who were beheaded by IS in February came after coordination between the army and the Libyan government, the sources told Al Bawaba News
They added that the Egyptian and Libya armies will continue to coordinate in order to confront terrorism, pointing out that Egypt has demanded more than once to lift arms embargo on the Libyan army to fight terrorist groups.
Earlier Monday, Israeli military intelligence website “DEBKA” published a report claiming that Egypt is preparing a large-scale operation to capture eastern Libya from IS.
