New Interior minister in Jordan for security talks

The new Interior Minister is in the Jordanian capital Amman for two days of talks on potential Jordanian help to restore security and stability in Libya.

Mohamed Al-Fakhri Al-Madani, who formally took over as interior minister in the Beida-based government on Tuesday, had talks yesterday with his Jordanian counterpart, Salamah Hammad.

According to the Jordanian news agency Petra, police training was one of the main issues under discussion.

The two ministers also looked at ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in regard to security to general. They agreed on the need to reactivate agreements already signed between the two countries in relation to it.

According to Petra, Al-Mandani told Hammad that Libya needed Jordan’s help to rebuild its police and internal security forces, and that it was highly respected in Libya.

The Jordanian minister affirmed that his country would stand with Libya and the Libyan authorities. Its security agencies were, he said, willing to cooperate with Libyan counterparts.

Further talks were planned for today.
