UN Security Council lauds Serraj-Hafter Paris Joint Delaration

The United Nations Security Council has announced its backing for Tuesday’s ten-point deal agreed in Paris between Presidency Council’s head Faiez Serraj and armed forces commander-in-chief Khalifa Hafter.

France’s UN ambassador Francois Delattre yesterday briefed council members on the Paris talks hosted by French president Emmanuel Macron. Today they gave their blessing to the deal, urging all Libyans to support the Serraj-Hafter joint declaration calling for an immediate ceasefire, a negotiated political settlement within the UN-approved Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) and national reconciliation.

The council also underscored the UN’s central role in fostering a Libya-led dialogue. Members welcomed the appointment of the new UNSMIL chief Ghassan Salamé and pledged their support for his work.
