U.S. Congress calls for a greater role in Libya

The Voice of America said that members of the U.S. House of Representatives demanded a greater role for Washington in Libya, and expressed support for the military contribution of U.S. forces in Libya.

A US official confirmed Washington’s commitment to support the Presidential Council to defeat ISIS group and to promote lasting stability in Libya on the basis of political reconciliation, the U.S. government-funded international radio reported.

On the other hand, Chair of U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said it is better for the White House to show more commitment to Libya, and to open the embassy and appoint a new ambassador in Tripoli to increase the American presence on the ground, explaining that Libya is in need for the U.S. leadership more than the military and financial aid.
