One person killed, two wounded in smugglers’ gun battle southern Libya

One gunman was killed and two others were injured in armed fighting among fuel smuggling gangs in Garyat town – 350 km to Tripoli’s south.

Local media reported that the clashes broke out late on Saturday between smugglers who were securing a fuel tank and others who wanted to take the smuggled fuel tank for themselves.

“An armed group was securing the smuggled fuel but the other armed group attacked them in an attempt to steal the fuel. They were four people in total.” Sources told local media.

They added that the securing smugglers opened fire on the attackers killing one and injuring two others, pointing out that the body and injuries were sent to Garayt hospital.

“The exact spot was 150 km away from Mizdah. It is an area near Garyat.” The sources indicated.
