UNSMIL calls for pause of clashes in Derna to allow access of humanitarian goods

The United Nations mission in Libya said Tuesday that the deterioration of the situation in Derna has led to a severe shortage of necessities, including food, and medicine.

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Libya, Maria Ribeiro, called for a cessation of hostilities for humanitarian purposes in order to allow access to life-saving humanitarian goods to the city and to give the people of the city an opportunity to store supplies.

Dignity Operation, backed by France, Egypt and UAE, launched an air and ground attack on Derna since mid-May in order to take over the city after imposing a besiege for nearly two years.
