UN delegate to Libya says current political bodies need replacement

The Head of the UNSMIL, Ghassan Salame, has visited the southern region in Libya for the first time since he replaced the German Martin Kobler in June 2017 to discuss the current issues in the region.

Salame told the southern social, security and academic components representing the region in a meeting in Sabha that there are efforts underway to resolve the most lingering problems in security, health, liquidity at the banks and other fields in the south.

“Results on the ground will start to manifest in the next week and the security arrangements in Tripoli will be expanded to reach the south and the entire country.” Salame added.

He also told off the current political leaderships in Libya including the House of Representatives, High Council of State and the Presidential Council. saying there’s a need for alternatives in Libya.

Salame explained that the UNSMIL helped make the economic reforms turn in Libya, leading to the impact on the exchange rates of the black market and also providing cash at the banks, especially in the south.
