Violent clashes between Tabu tribesmen, Haftar’s force in Libya’s Murzuq

Armed fighting between armed groups loyal to Khalifa Haftar and Tabu tribe’s armed groups hit on Wednesday Murzuq town in southern Libya.

The official at the so-called Brigade 73 Infantry of Haftar’s self-styled army, Al-Mundir Al-Khartoush, said they had entered Murzuq town from the eastern side, thus ensuing clashes with the Tabu armed groups.

Meanwhile, local sources from the town said Haftar’s armed groups, mostly from Awlad Suleiman tribe, have retreated after fierce resistance from Tabu fighters.

Haftar’s forces have been encircling Tabu-inhabited Murzuq town for weeks, hindering the entry of fuel trucks amid recurrent airstrikes that caused a number of deaths and injuries.

In Tripoli, on the other hand, the Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, received a delegation from Murzuq, who informed him of the latest in the town.

The delegation said it represents not only Murzuq but also all the rest of towns and districts up to borders with Niger and Chad.
