Erdogan, Putin reiterate need for ceasefire in Libya’s capital

The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties and recent developments in Libya and Syria, Turkish media reported.

Erdogan and Putin exchanged views on the crisis in Libya where Khalifa Haftar, who commands forces loyal to Libya’s eastern Parliament, launched a campaign to capture Tripoli from the UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) in early April.

Erdogan and Putin also called for a ceasefire in Libya and renewal of a political process under the auspices of the United Nations, the Kremlin said in a statement.
