The political initiative of the head of the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, to end the crisis through a national meeting had been welcomed internationally.
From his side, the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, said on his Twitter account on Monday that he agrees on any inclusive initiative that aims to restart the dialogue and end the divisions. He stated that “there is no military solution in Libya.”
In the same context, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) stated, on Sunday, that “the President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez [Al-Sarraj], today announced a constructive proposal to advance the political process towards ending Libya’s long state of conflict. UNSMIL welcomes the initiative, and any other initiative proposed by any of Libya’s major actors and offers its good offices to assist the country to emerge from its long state of transition towards a period of peace, stability and prosperity.”
The Italian Foreign Minister, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, had also announced his country’s support to Al-Sarraj’s initiative that proposes to hold a national meeting to resume the political talks to achieve stability in Libya.
The spokesperson for the EU Foreign-Policy chief, Maya Kosyanchich, had described Al-Sarraj’s political initiative as a right step in the right direction to resume the political operation to end the division and conflict in Libya.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Sarraj announced his political initiative, on Sunday, and called for adopting a road map and a constitutional base to end the transitional stage under the supervision of the Security Council.
In his statement, Al-Sarraj stressed that the war on Tripoli is not between the eastern and western sides of Libya, adding that it is not a war on terrorism. He called on the Libyans in the eastern side of Libya to stand against the oppression and the attack against Tripoli that was led by General Khalifa Haftar and his forces.
Al-Sarraj stated that he is working for peace through dialogues as the only solution. He declared that he would carry on fighting the offensive attack on Tripoli.
