Schools are not a target; UNICEF reacts to Al-Alamain school shelling in Tripoli

UNICEF has condemned the latest shelling on Al-Alamain school in Tripoli on Saturday.

In a thread on Twitter, the UNICEF said the children and the teachers were not at school during the time of the incident, as the academic year has ended on the 17th of July.

“230 girls and 350 boys attend Al-Alamain school in two shifts. Students are expected to commence the new school year during the first week of September 2019 and will find their school damaged with three classrooms out of the available 12 completely unusable.” It added.

It explained that some 120,000 students missed on months of learning because their schools have been closed since the outbreak of clashes in Tripoli early in April.

The UNICEF called for an immediate end to the violence and to keep children out of harm’s way.
