Kidnapped member of Libya’s High Council of State released

The brother of the member of the Libyan High Council of State (HCS) Mustafa Al-Treki has told local media that HCS member is now released after being on Tuesday in Al-Matrad in western Al-Zawiya city.

The HCS has hailed the release of the member after “joint efforts that turned out very fruitful at the end.”

Meanwhile, residents of Al-Matrad, where the kidnapping took place, condemned the incident in a video statement, calling for holding the perpetrators accountable.

The HCS issued a statement on Wednesday condemning the kidnap of Al-Treki from his house by an armed group loyal to “Dignity Operation of Khalifa Haftar”.

Gunmen kidnapped Tuesday the member of the High Council of State (HCS) Mustafa Al-Treki from Al-Matrad area in western Al-Zawiya city.

Social media loyal to Khalifa Haftar said the kidnap was ‘a critical operation’ for forces affiliated with Haftar, taking Al-Treki to Sorman and then Sabratha – the main foothold of Haftar’s forces in western Libya.
