Amnesty International has launched on its website a campaign calling on Khalifa Haftar to reveal the fate and whereabouts of the member of House of Representatives (HoR) Siham Sirgiwa and urging him to ensure her release and protect her from all forms of torture.
Amnesty International said there’s still no communication with Sirgiwa over the months that she has been kidnapped which might point to signs that she was tortured or abused.
The campaign comes three months after the kidnap of the HoR member who was abducted on July 17 as her husband got shot in the leg and her son – 16 years old – got beaten.
Meanwhile, the UNSMIL held eastern authorities in Libya accountable for the fate and whereabouts of Sirgiwa, while EU delegation and 7 embassies called for releasing her and probing the incident.
Before Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch called for the release of Sirgiwa and threatened to hold top officials accountable for her disappearance at international courts.
Likewise, many Libyan figures and activists said Sirgiwa was killed under torture from the early days of her abduction, the last of whom was HoR member Jalal Shuwaihdi who said last week on TV that she was killed, citing sources from Benghazi.
