The Libyan Air Force of the Government of National Accord (GNA) said it had destroyed seven Russian-made Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft systems given to Khalifa Haftar’s forces by the UAE in Al-Watiya airbase, Tarhouna and Al-Wishka in 48 hours.

The forces under the command of the Government of National Accord (GNA) have seized this morning control of Al-Watiya airbase in western Libya from Khalifa Haftar’s forces, Deputy Minister of Defense of the GNA has confirmed.

In late December, just weeks after signing a military cooperation agreement with Libya’s internationally recognised government, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid an unexpected visit to Tunisia.

Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) has launched an offensive to capture a key airbase southwest of Tripoli from the Libyan National Army (LNA), according to Anadolu Agency, days after rejecting a truce.

Libyan government forces began a new operation on Saturday to retake the city of Tarhouna, 88 kilometres southeast of the Tripoli, from forces loyal to rogue General Khalifa Haftar.

The spokesman for the Libyan Army Mohammed Gununu said a Libyan Air Force warplane targeted Sunday a military cargo plane minutes after it had landed in a Tarhouna airstrip.
