A German charity said Monday it had rescued some 100 people from a collapsing dinghy in the Mediterranean while being threatened by the Libyan coastguard.

House of Representatives (HoR) member Ms. Siham Sirgiwa is still missing over a month after her abduction. She had been abducted from her home in the eastern city of Benghazi on 17 July.

A number of Libyan citizens held a protest on Wednesday, in front of the UN mission’s HQ in Janzour district, west of Tripoli, to demand the expulsion of the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame.

Tunisia’s defence ministry said Monday it had prevented 53 Ivorian and Sudanese citizens from illegally entering the country, a move condemned by NGOs as a violation of rights.

Two United Nations agencies have called on the European countries to resume rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea and to stop refugee and migrant returns to Libya, where they face dire conditions and are at risk due to the ongoing conflict.

Some 38 Libyan rights groups yesterday called on the authorities to urgently evacuate the refugees and migrants held in detention centres in the country in the wake of an air strike which killed 60, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has said that there is a ”catastrophic situation” in Libyan detention centers that it visited.
