Militias loyal to renegade commander Khalifa Haftar have left 48 corpses behind while fleeing from war zones, the Libyan army said Tuesday.

The Libyan Interior Ministry discussed in a meeting Tuesday mechanisms to recruit individuals from backup forces who have been fighting on and around Tripoli frontlines.

Following a string of significant losses in western Libya, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA) has renewed its offensive in mountain regions, advancing towards the strategic town of Ghariyan.

The city of Gharyan has been the scene of heavy clashes this morning as Libyan forces under the command of the Government of National Accord have thwarted attacks by Khalifa Haftar’s forces via Ghout Al-Reeh frontline, Mayor of Gharyan Yousef Al-Badri confrmed.

A mass grave was found south of Tripoli, the Libyan Interior Ministry said today, reports Anadolu Agency. The grave was discovered in Sadiyah area which was recaptured from forces loyal to eastern warlord Khalifa Haftar, the ministry said in a statement.

Seven people have been killed and over 12 others injured, one amputated, in a grad rockets attack by Khalifa Haftar’s forces on Souq Al-Thelutaa roundabout in Tripoli. 

Libyan government forces pounded positions of warlord Khalifa Haftar’s militias at Tripoli airport, south of the Libyan capital, according to the military on today, reports Anadolu Agency. 

The situation in Libya continues to deteriorate despite a cease-fire declared in January, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Friday.

Operation Volcano of Rage confirmed on Wednesday that Colonel Fathi Al-Hosh of Military Engineering Department along with a number of his colleagues were wounded while dismantling mines and explosives in liberated neighborhoods of South Tripoli.

Russia and Turkey backed an immediate ceasefire in Libya during a phone call between both countries’ foreign ministers, Moscow said on Thursday.
