A medical source announced that seven civilians were injured in shelling by the militias of warlord Khalifa Haftar on the Draybi area of Tripoli on Wednesday.

The Libyan Army forces under the command of the Government of National Accord (GNA) have seized control of yet another town in the region nearby Al-Watiya airbase in western Libya, as Khalifa Haftar’s retreat under heavy attacks from the ground and airstrikes by GNA forces. 

The Libyan Air Force of the Government of National Accord (GNA) said it had destroyed seven Russian-made Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft systems given to Khalifa Haftar’s forces by the UAE in Al-Watiya airbase, Tarhouna and Al-Wishka in 48 hours.

Forces loyal to Libya’s eastern military strongman Khalifa Hifter withdrew from parts of Tripoli after rival troops captured two towns near the Tunisian border and a key air base from the renegade general.

Forces allied with Libya’s internationally-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) say they have recaptured two towns near the Tunisian border from eastern-based renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar’s forces.

While a ceasefire in Syria has reduced combat between rebels and government forces, mercenaries from the two sides are still fighting in Libya on behalf of their Russian and Turkish backers.

Foreign states are increasingly active in this new chapter of the long-running conflict.

Officials with Libya’s internationally-recognised government say at least seven civilians in Tripoli have been killed in renewed shelling which they blamed on eastern-based forces seeking to seize the capital.
